Raise the Christmas Woof!
Just when you thought you’d heard every carol the season has to offer, dog food company Tails.com releases the first Christmas single composed specifically to help dogs get into the holiday spirit. Instead of traditional sleigh bells and chimes, “Raise the Woof” features sounds including squeaky toys and common canine trigger words like “treat,” and “good boy!”
A collaboration between the company’s head veterinarian, dog behaviorist Carolyn Menteith, and professional composers and producers, this “waggae” tune is based on scientific research. A focus group of 25 dogs was played over 500 different sounds while researchers analyzed which sounds the dogs responded to positively. The sounds that make ears perk, tails wag, and heads cock the most were incorporated into the final song which was recorded at none other than Abbey Road studio of Beatles fame.
Though listeners have reported varying reactions, the song has been a successful fundraiser for Dudes & Dogs, an organization focused on men’s mental health.
