Q&A with Manager/Co-founder Megan
Hi, Everyone! Megan Anderson here. I’m the co-founder and manager of Kokomo Home Buddies dog sitting. Today I’d like to answer some common questions and give you a better idea of how we strive to provide both you and your pets the best possible service for when you’re away.
We saw the need for a more personal, homey option for boarding and day care. Each dog has their own unique quirks, and kennels while great for some, just aren’t set up to provide the one-on-one attention many dogs need. We offer a home where each dog gets focused care suited to their individual needs.
When your dogs stay with us, they are the ONLY dogs staying with us, but we do host multiple dogs at a time if they come from the same household. This policy avoids conflicts between unfamiliar dogs, unnecessary stress, and eliminates concerns about communicating illness. We want to make their time with us is as comfortable, happy, and safe as possible.
By offering such personalized care, that does limit our availability, so we highly recommend booking as far in advance as possible. Holidays and school breaks are first to fill up, and usually a few months ahead of time, so if you know you’ll need dog care, get in touch with us as soon as possible so you’re not stuck trying to find a last minute place for your pup. If you have specific dates in mind, you can peek at our website’s availability calendar. I’ll include a link to that for you. We always do our best to work with last-minute bookings, but it’s first-come-first-served, so planning ahead is your best chance for getting in.
Another question we get often is do we offer dog-sitting in the client’s home? Yes! We consider house-sitting upon request. If your dog has health concerns that make boarding away from home a problem, we are happy to try and accommodate. Again, we want what’s best for your dog, so feel free to ask about our availability to provide that service for you.
For first-time clients we always try having you and your dogs over for a meet-and-greet before the potential booking. For housesitting, we’ll gladly come to you. We want you as owners to feel good about where your fur buddies are staying and about us as their caregivers. We want to make sure we’re a good fit.
There’s a little questionnaire we fill out during that meeting that helps make sure everybody is on the same page and comfortable with the arrangement. It covers things like your dog’s routine, health concerns, behaviors, likes and dislikes, etc. Meet-and-greets also go a long way in helping your dog feel at home faster when their boarding date comes. We’ve found dogs who’ve had a chance to sniff around first make themselves right at home pretty much immediately.
For boarding and day care we provide basic things like food and water bowls, toys (which we clean between dogs), beds, and leashes. Really all you need to provide is the food they’re used to, any medications they need, and any comfort items you’d like to bring. We have a suggested packing list and list of items we keep on hand available on our website as well.
Whether it’s just for an afternoon, a few nights, or a longer term stay in our home or yours, our goal is making your dog’s stay as happy and stress-free as possible.
If you have any questions I didn’t answer in this video, please reach out! We would love to tell you more about what we do and learn about your special furry friends. Thanks so much for watching and considering Kokomo Home Buddies as your dog’s home away from home. Take care!
